Why is it needed?

The compressor consists of multiple stages of intermediate and high pressure rotating blades and static vanes.

The primary purpose of the compressor is to increase the pressure of the air through the gas turbine core. It then delivers this compressed air to the combustion system

What does it look like?

What makes it special?
  • In would take just 10 seconds to compress all the air in a squash court to the same size as an original Mini Cooper
  • During Take-Off the air pressure as it leaves the compressor about 24 times greater than the pressure in a typical car tyre
  • Before the air has even made it to the combustion chamber it has already reached the same temperature as the flame of a charcoal fire
