- Why is it needed?
Power is transferred from the turbines to the compressors and the aircraft electrical system through shafts, with bearings providing axial and radial positioning of the rotating components. In order to extract power from the engine, drives transmit power from the gears mounted on the engine shafts an external gearbox. This in turn runs the engine accessories which provide hydraulic and electrical power to the aircraft.
- What makes it special?
- The power the engine provides to the aircraft is enough to boil 146 kettles and make 1022 cups of tea
- The High Pressure shaft can rotate at over 10000rpm – this is faster than a typical motorbike engine
